System Support and Troubleshooting

Isn’t it great when everything works perfectly the first time, and keeps on working year after year?

Any new system requires administrative, software and hardware support, and Unif is no different.

The great news is that much of the Unifi equipment is built very well and rarely has a high point of failure. And this is for equipment with a reasonably affordable price point compared to other types of network equipment.

The one big downside to Unifi equipment is that when it does have some type of hardware failure or unknown software problem, there is no one to call. All of their support is handled via an online ticketing system and can take a number of back and forth discussions, over several days to resolve the problems.

In fact, if your use of Unifi equipment is crucial to your business, we recommend that you keep either hot or cold spares available for every important component that can be easily swapped out. You can then leave the RMA process to be handled at a later time.

One area that can take an inordinate amount of time to configure and to troubleshoot is complicated network architecture configurations. This would be areas like Firewall rules, VLANs and issues like port forwarding etc. While all the Unifi gear works very nicely together, you might install a new piece of equipment (Non Unifi) and the rest of the network stops responding correctly. Or, you may have a workstation with a bad network card that takes down your switching network. These types of tricky issues can take awhile to resolve.
